This year, over 380 citizenship ceremonies will be hosted by local councils and organizations as part of their Australia Day celebrations. More than 20,600 individuals from over 150 different countries are invited to take part in these ceremonies, where they will make their pledge of commitment to Australia and officially become Australian citizens.
The National Citizenship and Flag Raising Ceremony in Canberra will be held on January 26 at Rond Terrace. This prestigious event will be broadcast live on ABC from 9:00 am, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese presiding over the ceremony. The Australian Citizenship Affirmation will be led by the Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms. Sam Mostyn AC. This ceremony serves as a celebration of Australia’s diversity, the significance of citizenship, and the values that bring Australians together.
As part of this process, new citizens will join more than 6 million Australians who have received their citizenship since the inaugural ceremony in 1949. Australia extends a warm welcome to each individual who makes the commitment to live by our shared values. The department encourages all Australians to actively participate in their communities, demonstrating inclusion, respect, and compassion.
